Harry, who is honest by his own standards, sincere and courageous, looks back on his life: the violent experiences in world war i in austria and italy and the greco-turkish war.in 'soldiers home' hemingway describes the estrangement from society of a young american soldier, and in 'my old man' he tells the story of a warm and affectionate relationship between father and son travelling in europe from one race-course to the other. Heminway's style is tough, simple and colloquial, full of understatement, with descripstions of brutality.
